As a mom, it’s often challenging to articulate the profound bond between us and our children. It’s a connection that transcends words—a love so deep and instinctual that it defies explanation. Motherhood is undoubtedly demanding; it can drain me physically and emotionally. Yet, amidst the chaos and exhaustion, there’s a sense of fulfillment that fills my souls like nothing else can. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions—complicated, messy, and utterly wonderful. Despite the sleepless nights and endless responsibilities, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Can you relate?

No matter how you became a mom, or how your relationship is with your own mom, this is a connection that is like no other connection in this world.
Motherhood is a journey marked by love, sacrifice, and unwavering strength. It’s a universal experience that really transcends borders, cultures, and backgrounds. Unfortunately for many in Sierra Leone, motherhood marks the end and not the beginning for many. 1 in 8 women die from pregnancy related causes a day. 20% of children die before their 5th birthday. 80 % of maternal deaths could be avoided with access to basic health facilities. Birth should be a beginning and not an end. Women deserve a birth story that doesn’t end in tragedy. To safely go into labour, in peace, knowing that they will soon meet their little one.
At Freedom Tree, we have been saving babies and their mothers since our beginning in 2011.
We have seen massive reduction in maternal and infant mortality in the communities we work in. We know the profound impact that mothers have on society and the invaluable role they play in shaping the future. This month of May, a time dedicated to celebrating mothers worldwide, we invite you to join us in supporting more remarkable women.
